Statement: Dignity and Respect for All

March 17, 2023

The North Coast Labour Council supports the work of the BCGEU Provincial Executive Indigenous Advisory Committee on behalf of the knowledge keeper who was disrespected by the Vancouver downtown Hyatt hotel. As a labour council, we oppose discrimination based on race or status and call for all persons, especially First Nations knowledge keepers, to be treated with dignity and respect. As a hotel used by unions and other labour organizations, the Hyatt must ensure that the values of the labour movement are reflected in its treatment of people. This is a serious issue, and our council supports the BCGEU Provincial Executive Indigenous Advisory Committee and other union efforts to hold the Hyatt hotel accountable in this matter.
